Designer/sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte have showcased a side to them we’ve never really seen before for their Spring/Summer 2011 collection at New York fashion week (in beauty, that is). Over the past few shows, the makeup consisted of deep, gray or red lips, ghostly-pale complexions and wool hair nets; however there was a slight turn in direction this time by make-up artist James Kaliardos (for MAC cosmetics): neatly pinned back hair and neutral bronze faces, iridescent golden cheekbones, frosted, lemon lips and bright yellow and lashes were all an unexpected, big surprise to onlookers. However, the gold colour palette-faces complemented the designers' line extremely well.. Very natural, soft, and youthful: quite comparable to late-sixties/early-seventies style of healthy, sunkissed faces. And if you thought all the blond--haired models were a coincidence, you thought wrong: the artistic director knew the contrast of makeup and hair would be beautiful. True artistry.
