Get Purr-fect Smokey Eyes

With all things feline crossing the seasons of this present year, from spring's cat-eye sunglasses and leopard shoes, to fall's printed bags, belts, leggings, and faux (or real) fur jackets, we've become somewhat obsessed with this trend. It is absolutely no surprise to us that the kitten-craze is spreading across faces, and we couldn't love it any more than we do. Yes, although DSquared2's F/W 2010 look is a little heavy and over-the-top, the look itself is definitely one worth practicing in order to get it just right. With a few slight tweaks here and there, the look is versatile depending on your own style, personality and preference (which are why it is so amazing). Feeling a little daring? Embrace the look of Leighton Meester: she chose a blend of liner and (extremely well blended) eye shadow to create a strong smoky cat eye. Similarly, Scarlett Johansson kept is smoky, catty and sweet: a dark thick liner extending outwards, blending into her lower lashline, with a diffused navy eye shadow. Still too bold for you? Not to worry. Take note from Kate Moss' much more subtle eyes, while still making a bold, statement- she is wearing a softly smoked cat-eye liner in a rich copper hue. In the same way, Rachel McAdams softened up the trend with a thin, dark eyeliner along her upper and lower lash line not extending beyond her lid, and a soft grey shadow on her lids to create the extended cat-eye look.

The final result is the same trend without being immensely intense. Whichever look you decide to embrace, the result will be nothing short of purr-fect.

Line Them Up

The classical black-lined eye was reinvented last season, with new interpretations, styles, and application techniques pushing way beyond the (black) line (pun intended). Take Zac Posen, where make-up artist Stephanie Marais created a "melting" look or the day-old make-up look with smudged liner over the entire eye area. On the other hand, Giambattista Valli's models rocked a 60's-type liner, except modernized to fit the current times. Whereas Peter Philips, for Chanel, replicated a pattern on boots (in their collection) on the eye, applying specks of eyeliner to create the similar pattern, Blumarine kept the liner classic and traditional. 1. Shape them: if your brows are naturally thick (firstly, lucky you!) but maintenance is somewhat easy. Make sure you focus on keeping your brows manicured: about every few weeks, devote some time to regular upkeep, ideally by a professional, then continue this shape at home and keep them clean and in-check, ideally with a pair of tweezers.

3. Tint them: When you dye your hair a drastic colour, it is crucial you follow suit with your brows to complement your hair, and further emphasize your brows. However, this is not a DIY experiment: make sure you go to a salon and have a professional dye your arches. Blondes should stick to deeper tones (too light brows look pale, thus draining out the face; brunettes generally should go slightly lighter to soften the features).

2. Fill them: With the right products (and a little practice), everyone can create this seasons look of full brows. The trick is the correct colouring; remember, blondes should go about 2 shades darker than their natural brow hair colour, and brunettes should go one to two shades lighter. Using feather strokes fill in holes, gaps and create the shape of a perfectly arched brow, using any products intended for brows (waxes, shadows, pencils--the list goes on).
